Hello everyone!
My name is Kareem Barakat and I am an exchange student from Jordan. They say that an image is worth a thousand words so I will try to draw an image for you from my one-week trip to Italy.
For the first time in my life, I went on a trip on my own without anyone I had previously known before. So I was a bit afraid that I might be alone for the whole week and thankfully I was extremely wrong, because first I met the most amazing persons in my entire life whom became my dear best friends in just a couple of days and the second best part is that I was in Italy with them!
We took the bus from Cologne to La Spazia which was 13 hours and that was another scary factor in the trip. Fortunately, I was wrong again because these persons that I have just met were so much fun that time pasted incredibly fast, jumping from one topic to another until we could feel our mouth dry because of speaking so much.
So on the first day, we started the trip in Cinque Terre, which is one of the most exquisite places I have ever laid my eyes on, we hiked a mountain in one of the villages and we were amazed by the view of the Mediterranean Sea. For lunch, we had some real Italian food with flavors that makes your mouth jump in excitement for the next bite. After that we grabbed the courage to swim in the sea with the chilly weather and it was absolutely worth to try. We were happy and filled up with energy!
On the second day, we went to Rome which definitely touches your soul with the amount of culture, ancient ruins all around the city and around every corner, and of course the Colosseum with its huge pillars that could probably tell you stories of legendary fights that it has witnessed. In the afternoon, we visited the Vatican City, which contains masterpieces of paintings, sculptures, among other types of art. I was surprised by how talented the street performers were, they created the most romantic atmospheres with their fingers and instruments, reaching out to people's hearts. Definitely, the architecture of the city is beyond hard to describe making the tongue wavered with which adjective should be used to describe it.
On the third day, we went to Pompeii, which is the city that was buried in ash after the eruption of mountain Vesuvius making the whole sky bring darkness from above. There we saw some body casts, human remains and we also visited the remains of an old brothel and some really stunning houses that belonged to the rich people of Pompeii. In the afternoon, we went to Napoli that had a speechless view of the sea and I tried the pizza there because the rumors say that was the city where the pizza was originally made and it lived up to that rumor because it was incredibly delicious. After that, we strolled down the streets eating Italian ice cream enjoying our time.
On the fourth day, we were heading back to Germany but we decided that we should make a stop at a place called Siena, which was without a doubt the best combination of history and modernization. I was so excited to go there because the story of Assassin's creed brotherhood was in this city and I recognized most places which made me feel extremely excited and almost as I belonged there. Also, this city is known for horseracing and definitely for its Mardi Gras face masks which were colorful and elegant.
However, the fun did not stop at night! Every evening my new friends and I would hang out in the hostel, living the moment and having sleepless nights that will be memorable for eternity in our hearts. The worst part was the farewell, which was really hard and for that we had to hug more than once.L
To sum up, it is not the destination that makes the trip great but it is the journey and with whom it is with.
