I don't spend time reading music anymore. At least not in the conventional way. I remember something about "beats to a measure" but have forgotten a lot of the rest.
Were some people once scandalized by player piano music and thought it was cheating? Or were they simply amazed that pianissimo and mezzo forte could be reduced to holes in a very long sheet of paper?
How long have we lived in a world where children ask so often "what in the world is that"?
No, I keep a different time with music these days. Like some of you other paper obsessed folks I'm always on the lookout for sheets and rolls to play in a different way. At a different tempo.
While my imagination is busy staring at treble clefs and quarter notes wondering what to make out of them for Christmas, I'm playing musical chairs.
And pondering other measures.
And getting a glimpse of the world in 1918.
The creative dynamics have not reached fortissimo for me yet. It's still time to just do some humming. . . .
I hope your day is filled with beautiful music!
Ciao! for now!
